This is our guide to surfing schools at Rhossili, Llangennith, Caswell, etc. We have also included a list of shops, at various locations on the Gower peninsula, Swansea Bay and Mumbles, that provide surfing equipment hire.
These schools cater for all abilities and welcome holidaymakers. Most provide surfboards, wetsuits, etc. so you can see if its the sport for you before buying this expensive equipment.
SurfabilityUK provides surfing lessons and experiences for people with additional needs due to disability, illness, injury, or learning difficulties.
Surfing compares with similar sports like snowboarding/skiing in that the basic skills can be learned in a day. However, more tuition time is needed to learn control and intermediate skills. The qualified instructors are able to quickly assess individuals’ abilities and give an accelerated introduction to the sport through ‘beach teaching’ the skills required. As a measure of the success of the local Surf Schools, the majority of people achieve stand up surfing on their first day.
Tuition is also available for surfers who want to improve or learn new skills.
